Common Questions

What does your therapy actually entail?

Our therapy is highly individualized based on the kiddo's needs and family support required. Our recommendations will be for your specific situation. We adhere to what a child's typical day schedule looks like and provide support throughout. Children can receive therapy anywhere they and their family need it. This may be at home, in our clinic, daycare, school, or any place they frequent. During sessions at home, we assist with their regular work or play or activities the family has planned. While in our clinic, they may have a day that resembles a typical school day including projects, activities, and social time.

I just received a referral to an ABA provider, what do I do?

Give us a call, we can set up an initial consultation to discuss your needs as well as the services that may be available in your area that you can explore. We can also make sure you have referrals to any other therapy that may be needed, including OT, PT, and speech.

Will I have to go through an assessment only to find out you can’t provide the services we need?

No, we will ONLY provide an assessment when we are ready willing and able to provide the therapy for your child

What’s the timeline and/or order of operations?

Our assessments typically take about 30 days to complete, though this timeline may vary depending on the availability of the family and the child’s school schedule. While we aim to finish within two weeks, coordinating everyone’s schedules can sometimes extend the process. Once the assessment is finalized, we submit it to the insurance carrier for treatment authorization if ongoing services are recommended. We’ll also schedule a time with the family to review the results and discuss the next steps.

How much do these services cost?

It depends on many factors so the best thing to do is reach out to us and we'll help walk you through it. We work with a number of insurance carriers and we are a proud Tricare provider. We also accept Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Cross/ Blue Shield, Magellan Health, Cigna, United Healthcare, CalOptima, and Blue Shield of California insurance plans. Give us a call so we can evaluate your specific situation.

Do you have a waitlist? If so, how long is the wait?

It varies. Our longest wait times are for therapy that would occur after school hours (3:30pm-5:30pm). Our shortest wait times are for families looking for therapy between the hours of 9am-2pm.

Can you tell me about the professionals who will be working with my child?

The thing that makes our staff stand out is that our RBTs get a minimum of a month of training before they are ever one-on-one with our kiddos. We require an RBT certification and assist our staff in obtaining that certification before they work with children. Each of our staff goes through background checks, and have ongoing support and training.

At Evolutions ABA, we prioritize supporting our technicians, creating a positive and balanced work environment. This leads to low staff turnover, which means consistent care and stronger relationships with the families we serve. Our technicians enjoy schedules that align with their personal lives, ensuring they bring their best to every session.

Is my child going to be forced to do things they don’t want to do?

Our approach involves interviewing our kids and finding out what they want to work on. As a policy, we get a lot more input from our kids than other ABA providers. We highly encourage and value family and parent participation and feedback. The family nuances make all the difference in the success of our program, and a large part of our program is recognizing what our families are capable of, what they are willing to do, and then adapting to that.

We also gain child assent to ensure our kids are enjoying the therapy they receive. We never physically force children to do any tasks they do not want to do. We let our kids move at their own pace, and they will engage in any tasks or requests on their own time.

Do we need to commit to a minimum number of therapy hours per week?

No, we do not require that our families meet a minimum number of therapy hours per week. Many agencies do require standardized minimums, but we find that sometimes it’s just not possible with all of life’s other commitments - school, extracurriculars, etc. We provide specific recommendations for your child and family, and you can do what you’re able to do as long as it provides a clinical or therapeutic benefit.

What happens if we need to miss a week or some therapy time? Do we get kicked off the roster?

While some companies have strict rules around not taking more than a week of therapy off for things like family vacations, we do not. Our families are allowed to take vacations and time off from therapy as needed. We encourage vacations! We love when our kids get to enjoy family trips, birthday parties, and other outings - to us, there is an obvious childhood component to these events. Clinically, it’s great to have kids experience new things and sometimes escape life routines.

I’m trying to navigate other local services in the area, can you help?

Yes, we’re happy to help you navigate local social services, social security, in home support services (IHSS), Regional Center system (SDRC, RCOC, IRC), and the IEP (Individualized Education Plan) process.

Is there any chance you can visit X with us? We’re having challenges when we’re at X (X = home, daycare, church, preschools, local schools, in our clinic, etc.)

Yes, we’re flexible and can provide services when and where you need it.

What is ABA?

ABA is applied behavior analysis. Through a series of observations, BCBAs identify if a child has problematic behavior and how to treat it, as well as any skill deficits and how to best teach them those skills. We track progress through intensive data collection to ensure progress.

What is a BCBA?

A BCBA is a board certified behavior analyst with a master's degree in psychology, education, or a related field. They have two years of supervised field work and pass a written competency exam. They are registered with the Behavior Analysis Certification Board (BACB), and are held to strict ethical guidelines.

What does a BCBA do in case supervision?

A BCBA creates a treatment plan and intervention strategies. They also oversee your child’s progress, assesses and adjusts therapy plans as needed. Our BCBAs work hand in hand with our families and encourage parent input as well as child accent .

Is case supervision required for ABA therapy?

Yes, case supervision is essential in ABA to ensure quality and effectiveness, as it involves continual monitoring and program adjustment.

Progress is typically reviewed bi-weekly or monthly, depending on your child’s specific program needs and goals. We also provide bi-annual progress reports.

We have parents assist in creating a realistic plans, to work around barriers and general life surprises.

What happens after the FBA is completed?

If any ongoing treatment is recommended, we send the assessment to the insurance carrier for authorization. We then schedule an appointment with a family for review.

How is an ABA day program different from school or traditional daycare?

An ABA day program focuses specifically on behavior and skill-building through personalized plans developed by certified ABA professionals. Unlike traditional schools or daycare settings, the program targets individual goals, such as improving communication, reducing challenging behaviors, and fostering independence. Therapy is conducted in specialized environments, like sensory rooms or therapy spaces, ensuring a setting that maximizes learning and development.

How will I know if my child is making progress?

Regular progress tracking is a key part of our ABA day program. Therapists continuously collect data during sessions to monitor your child’s growth and adjust strategies as needed. You’ll receive frequent updates, progress reports, and opportunities to meet with our team to discuss your child’s achievements and goals. Parent and family involvement is strongly encouraged to ensure that improvements in the program carry over to home and community settings.

What availability do you have?

During our initial phone consultation evaluation we will assess the urgency of your case. We may have a waitlist based on specific therapy times needed, but it does change often and therefore we encourage a conversation.
